As a follow up to the Radon level in my home. I purchased a radon detector and had radon readings of 7-8 in my basement. Four is the level that is recommended that you do something about the radon in your home. After using Ace Radon Corp (800 844 RADON) for the radon remediation my levels are now down to .3. Most of my neighbors have used my detector and show radon levels from 7 to 14. I am very satisfied with ACE and the quality of work they performed and would highly recommend them to anyone in Harmony Park.
This is an email from one of our neighbors. You should probably check your levels.

The best way to validate your readings is with the static kit. Lowes has one for about $10.00. In order to get a good test you need to have the basement closed off from outside air infiltration that will defuse the radon and give you a false reading. Running the A/C or heating system with the vents open in the basement will throw off the readings also so the best time might be in the fall or when you leave the house for 48 to 72 hours. The kit has all the instructions.
Here's a study about the effects of radon:
http://www.radon.org/radonstudy.html
From a source that is not making $ on radon:
"If the house tests between 4 and 20 pCi/L there is no need for immediate panic, but you will have to make some difficult decisions. About 50% of the houses we test fall in this gray area. The average Colorado home measures 5.9 pCi/L. The national average is 1.5 pCi/L and outside air measures about 0.35 pCi/L. The closer to 4 or 20 pCi/L the easier the decision should be. The most difficult decisions are in the 10 to 12 pCi/L range. "
AND
"The decision, What to do about radon? is a personal choice that only you can make. Some people feel it is best to reduce as many of life's risks as they can. Other people feel the money spent installing and operating a radon mitigation system on a moderately elevated home could be put to better use, having regular family medical and dental check ups, or making other safety improvements in their home."
